On Feb.7, a fire broke out at a storage unit behind Palm Beach Skate Zone in Lake Worth, Florida, the home rink of Lynn’s Club Ice Hockey team. The facility faced substantial damage, but the next morning the team discovered the fire had spread to their locker room and destroyed their equipment.
With 20 players and three goalies, the team is now left with $75,565 of damage on pads, helmets, skates, sticks and personal items, leaving them unable to play. The team was forced to cancel the remainder of their 2021–22 season, which included a two-game home series against the University of Florida and a Prospect Skate for newly admitted students.
Now, the team looks to rebuild. The university is requesting donations to purchase new equipment so that the team can get back on the ice and come back stronger than ever for the 2022–23 season.
