PARKERSBURG — The Office Depot store near the Grand Central Mall will be closing this summer.
Company officials confirmed the closing in an e-mail sent Thursday.
“The Office Depot store located at 4030 Murdoch Ave. in Parkersburg is scheduled to close on Saturday, July 16,” said the message from the Media Relations Department, based in Boca Raton, Fla. “This location is having a closing sale that started (Thursday, May 19).
“We will continue to serve our Parkersburg-area customers online at officedepot.com.”
The store was the last occupied retail space in the small shopping center near the mall and the Home Depot store.
No official reason was given for the closure in the company’s statement.
Vienna Mayor Randy Rapp said the company has not informed the city of the closure, but they wouldn’t since the store is not actually in Vienna.
However, he said he hated to see the store go.
“I wish they could move across the street into our city,” he said.
The store had regularly filled a need for them with printing equipment, ink, printing services and more.
“It is always nice to have an office supply store in the area,” Rapp said. “They had a unique business in the area.”
The mayor has not heard what the plans will be for the site.
